Student Work Packets

March 19, 2020
Dear KES families,
I am writing this letter in a unique and uncertain time for us, but I am amazed at the outpouring of love and compassion displayed by our school faculty, district staff, our school families, and our community. We will all get through this together and get back to a normal schedule as soon as we possibly can. At this time, Roane County Schools will be closed through Tuesday, March 31st. I encourage each of you to follow the recommendations conveyed to us by all levels of government while we are out of school. However, it is important for our students to continue to be engaged academically and I will provide some important information too in order to help our parents.
KES will be open on Monday, March 23rd from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for students’ families that need to get their child’s medicine from the clinic. Nurse Chelsey will be available to distribute the medication to the parents or guardians of the respective student. Additionally, we will be distributing packets of work on Monday, March 23rd from 1-4 p.m. IF your teacher hasn’t already provided your child work. Parents or Guardians of students in grades K-2 will come through the bus line beginning at 1:00 p.m. and teachers will hand you a packet. Parents or Guardians of students in grades 3-5 will come through the main car rider line area starting at 1:00 p.m. The packets will include enough work to cover approximately two weeks of work. Again, we will conclude on Monday p.m. at 4:00 p.m. Please do not come into the school building unless you need to get medicine, get a personal belonging such as a jacket, etc. Our intent is to allow parents/guardians to stay in their car and will distribute the packets as you drive through the two different distribution locations. We want to continue to minimize contact in order to keep us all healthy.
Parents, I encourage you to work with your child at least a couple of hours each week day. It is best practice to do this earlier in the day if your individual schedules allow while they are the freshest and before other distractions occur. In addition to the packets, our teachers may also have resources available such as google classroom, IXL, Moby Max, and Accelerated Reader. Please feel free to communicate with your child’s teacher via Class Dojo, Remind, email or any other means that your child’s teacher has communicated with you. Students will return their completed work when we return to school on our regular schedule.
One other resource available our families is our Roane County Schools Nutrition Department will be set up at Cherokee Middle School beginning Monday, March 23rd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for distribution of breakfast and lunch. This distribution will occur each week day until we resume our regular school schedule, and is available to our students. The address for Cherokee Middle School is 200 Paint Rock Ferry Road in Kingston.
Again, I appreciate everyone’s help and understanding during this difficult time.
